A GIANT IS BORN

On the 6th of March 1902 the Club was founded and Juan Parós was appointed President. The team's gear consisted of white shorts and t-shirt, blue socks and a purple band on the coat of arms embroidered in colour. Mr. Arthur Johnson from the UK was the first coach of the Club. From that moment on, the Club that would reach an unsurpassable professional level is born.
Right now its trophy record shows that it is probably one of the best football teams in the world.

1902: Official foundation of the Club. The Madrid Football Club is formerly founded with Juan Padrós as President.
1905: First official title: Spanish Champions
1920: Alfonso XII recognises the title of “Real” to the Club; the football team starts to be called “Real Madrid Club”.
1931: Wins the first League
1943: Santiago Bernabeu is voted President.
1944: The project of the new stadium begins
1947: The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is opened.
1952: Saporta is included in the Members role of the Club.
1953: Di Stefano and Gento start to play for Real Madrid and the team wins several matches in the league.
1956: It wins the European Cup
1960: Inter-continental Champion.
1962: It wins the Spanish league and the cup.
1966: Sixth European cup, with the goals of Serena and Amancio. It wins the league having lost only 2 matches.
1967: Di Stefano leaves Madrid , closing down a period of great achieves.
1974: Miguel Muñoz leaves the club after 25 years. With him Real Madrid won 9 Leagues, 2 Cups, 2 European Cups and 1 Intercontinental Cup
1978: Bernabeu dies. After his death, Luis de Carlos becomes President.
1981: Liverpool wins the European Cup, in the last match against Real Madrid, which loses for 1-0.
1997: The FIFA chooses Madrid as the best football team in the history, for all the won matches and prizes.
1998: Seventh European Cup, after winning against Juventus with a goal of Mijatovic. This same year it also wins the Second Intercontinental cup.
2000: Eighth European Cup, after winning against Valencia for 3-0, with the goals of Morientes, McMannaman and Raúl. Florentino Pérez is now the new President.
2001: Luis Figo wins the “Golden Football”, as the best football player in the world. Real Madrid wins the Spanish league after the match against the Alavés (5-0) and after 4 years without this title.
2002: The celebration of the century of the club. Nineth European Cup. First European Super Cup. It buys Ronaldo, to whom they give the “Golden Football”. Third intercontinental cup.
2004: Beginning of the construction of the “ Real Madrid City ”. Camacho comes back as trainer and Florentino Pérez is voted again President.
